Spencer Advance, Spencer, Wisconsin (27 Jan. 1881 - 14 Jul 1881), Elias W. Stevens, publisher; Elbert E. Stevens, Local Editor.

The lecture that was announced for J. N. Phillips last Monday evening was not given by that gentleman.  A dispatch was received from him on Saturday, saying he could not be with us at the time appointed, in consequence of the severe illness of his wife; but it was thought best to have a meeting at the time appointed, and Rev. B. M. Fullmer being in town, was compelled to volunteer to make a speech on the occasion which he did after the Editor had talked seventeen and a half minutes.  Mr. Fullmer is an able and forcible speaker, and his effort made a deep impression on the audiences.  Mr. Phillips requested the postponement of his appointment for one week; therefore he may be expected here next Monday evening at 7:30 in the Methodist church.
