Wolf, Mathias G. (13 October 1938 - 14 March 1962)

Funeral series for Mathias were held Saturday morning.  He was born October 13, 1938, in Marshfield, and attended Granton High School.  His family had resided in the Town of Lynn for about 14 years.  Mathias had been employed at the Beilke farm for the last two years.

He is survived by his parents; three sisters, Mrs. Allen Degenhardt of Loyal, Mrs. Delbert Tiry of Oshkosh and Alice at home; three brothers, Richard and Ralph, both of Loyal, and Stephen, at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wolf, Rt. 1, Chili, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weidemann, Sr., of Marshfield.

Wolf suffocated when snow in which he was tunneling to get at ear corn collapsed about him shortly before midnight last week Wednesday.

There was no witness to the death of Wolf, who is the son of Mathias Wolf, Sr., of the Town of Lynn.  Only his legs were exposed to view when he was found by the Beilkes about midnight.  Beilke told Clark County officials that about 10:30 p.m., Wolf had gone outside to dig out corn which was to be taken to the mill Thursday morning for grinding.

The corn was snow-covered, and authorities expressed the belief that Wolf had tried to tunnel through to it, rather than to cut away the snow, and that the top had caved in around him.
