Martin Hiram (04 MAY 1918-30 ARP 2011)

 

Hiram G, Martin, 92, Loyal, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 30, 2011, under the care of his family and hospice. A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 4, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. Rev. Jerome Naduvathaniyil officiated. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sam Coel, Seth Martin, Paul Martin, Joey Martin, Mitchell Martin and Jonathan Martin.

 

Hiram George Martin was born on May 4, 1918, in Marshfield, the son of George and Cora (nee Roggenbauer) Martin. He attended Sacred Heart and St. John’s schools in Marshfield. On Aug. 25, 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served in the European Theatre. He fought in Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, and he was honorably discharged in 1945. On Sept. 3, 1947, he married Lenore Hytry at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Halder. They lived in Madison for six years where he worked as a printer. In 1955, he bought a farm north of Loyal and farmed until 1967. He then worked as a carpenter at Wicks’s Building System, in Spencer, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the VFW in Colby. He had many interests, but particularly enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Lenore, Loyal; 11 children, Ron (Kathy) Martin, Lodi, Dr. Gene (Jantra) Martin, Greenwood, David (Shuleen) Martin, Pleasant Hill, Calif., Rosalind (Bob) Graf, Pierson, Fla., Paul (Anne) Martin, Loyal, Therese (Mike) Thompson, Temecula, Calif., Caroline Martin, Madison, Sheila (Lawrence) Durbin, Franksville, Thomas (Diane) Martin, Marshfield, John (Terri) Martin, Marshfield, and Maria (Joseph) Coel, Pleasant Prairie; 21 grandchildren; two brothers, Luke (Lorraine) Martin, Arlington, Va., and Melvin Martin, Marshfield; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cora Martin, and one sister, Lillian Quinn, Beaver Bay, Minn.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given directly to the family.
