Ciolkosz, Alfred (Sane, Probation - 1962)

Alfred Ciolkosz, about 24, Stanley carpenter, was placed on probation for five years by Judge Herbert A. Bunde in Circuit Court here June 22 after pleading guilty to charges of breaking and entering and to aggravated assault.  Execution of concurrent sentences of concurrent sentences of five years on each count was withheld.

After nearly seven months in county and state institutions, Ciolkosz appeared before Judge Bunde Friday to change a previous not guilty plea to the charges.  He admitted breaking into the home of Mrs. John Wiernasz, a widowed mother of six, in the early morning of last October 25, threatening her with a knife and pulling a handful of hair from her head as he struggled with her.

The Wiernasz farm is located on Highway 29, four miles west of Thorp.

Ciolkosz as taken into custody in his room in Stanley a few hours after the assault.  He was identified by Mrs. Wiernasz, who said that he had done some carpentry work at her house a short time before.

Judge Bunde had before him a comprehensive psychiatric report on Ciolkosz done by state psychiatrists who examined him for 60 days.  The report indicated that he has no psychosis and is not antisocial.

Judge Bunde placed restrictions on Ciolkosz during the period he is on probation.  He said that he will go to Milwaukee, where a relative is a member of that city’s police force.
