Kronberger, Laverne (06 JUNE 1920-01 JUNE 2011)

 

Laverne H. Kronberger, 90, Loyal, passed away at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Monday, June 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiated. Burial followed in the Loyal  Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Maynard Bowe, Clayton Bowe, Jim Dux, Lynn Luchterhand, Charles Butterbrodt and Greg Gronski.

 

LaVerne Harold Kronberger was born on June 6, 1920, in Spokeville, rural Loyal, the son of John and Louise (nee Machgan) Kronberger. He grew up on the family farm and received his education in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1937. After completing his education, he worked at the feed mill in Spokeville while helping his father on the farm. He then purchased a larger farm with his father, near Spencer, and farmed until 1948. He married Catherine J. Habhegger on Sept. 1, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. They sold the farm and moved to Corning, Calif., in September 1948, only to move back to Guttenberg, Iowa in November and open a Gamble’s Hardware Store. In 1950, they moved to Highland, where they operated another Gamble’s Hardware Store until 1953. They bought a farm and moved to Greenwood in 1953 and began farming, he also worked at Wuethrich’s Creamery. He sold the farm in 1973 and moved to Loyal. Besides farming, he also worked at Casey Implement and then Central Tractor Supply until retiring in 1990. He had many interests, but especially loved tractors, walking, fixing things and sitting by water. He was  a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as church secretary and was active in the Adult Fellowship, was a former member of the Clark County Farm Bureau, and was previously served on the Greenwood Rural Fire Department.

 

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Catherine, Loyal; one son, Robert Kronberger, Greenwood; one niece, Margaret (Greg) Gronski, Pittsville; two nephews, Peter Kronberger and Paul Kronberger, both of Auburn, Calif.; and cousins and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rev. Raymond (Helen) Kronberger.
