Bryner, Catherine #2 (23 JUN 1861 - 3 APR 1946)

 

Catherine Anna Rhyner was born in Monticello, Wis., June 28, 1861, and passed away peacefully at her home in Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.) at 7:27 Wednesday evening, April 3, 1946, having attained the age of 84 years, 9 months and 10 days.  She was the oldest of eight children born to Henry and Elizabeth Rhyner.  The early years of her life were spent in Monticello.  She was married to John Bryner of Monticello on July 4, 1883, in New Glarus.  They lived in the southern part of the state for ten years, before moving to the town of Hewett, Clark County.  Leaving the town of Hewett in 1898, they settled on a farm east of Humbird, where they lived until 1917, when they retired.

 

She and her husband happily celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Humbird, July 4, 1933.  Mr. Bryner passed away Feb. 4, 1942.

 

Mrs. Bryner was a charter member of St. John’s Church, and also a charter member of the Women’s Guild.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Bryner were blessed with nine children, two of whom died in infancy.  Those surviving are, one son, John of Humbird; and six daughters: Mrs. Elizabeth Babler and Mrs. Rose Spring of Monticello; Mrs. Emma Keeler of Miami, Fla.; Mrs. Chloy Rider of Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Ann Hart and Mrs. Mae Hahn of Humbird.

 

Mrs. Bryner is also survived by one sister, Mrs. John Babler of Monticello; eighteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

 

Brief funeral services were held at St. John’s Church at 9:00 a.m. last Saturday morning, the Rev. Geo. Hohmann officiating, using as his text Philippians 1:2.  Mrs. Edith Smith and Mrs. Beatrice Waters sang "Rock of Ages" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," with Mrs. Emma Theiler as organist.  Pallbearers were Fred Theiler, John Greub, Herman Rider, Edwin Bleiler, Louis Laffe, and Jacob hefty.  Many beautiful floral emblems were an expression of esteem in which this beloved woman was held by all who knew her.  Those from away attending the services where were John Babler of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Iffland and Mrs. Ed Dickie of Fairchild.

 

Following the services at St. john’s Church, the funeral party left for Monticello, where services were held at Zwingli Evangelical and Reformed Church at 2:30 o’clock, the Rev. A.R. Achtemeier officiating, and burial was in the family lot in the church cemetery.  Those from here who went to Monticello were Mr. and Mrs. John Bryner, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hart, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hahn and children Gordon, Heber and Dora, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Bryner, and Mrs. Angus Flood and daughter Jean.

 

Other members of the immediate family attending the services at Monticello were Mr. and Mrs. Vin Babler and Mr. and Mrs. Will Spring of Monticello’ Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rieder and daughter, Mrs. Leo Bowen of Rockford, Ill.; and Mrs. Emma Keeler of Miami, Fla.  Most of the grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and Mrs. Will Bone and daughter Joyce of Evansville, also attended the services.
