Apfelbeck, Claude J. (August 30, 1925 - July 1, 2011)

 

Claude J. Apfelbeck, age 85, of Colby, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011, at the Colonial Center in Colby.


Claude was born August 30, 1925, to Carl and Margaret (Ohlinger) Aplfelbeck in Colby.

 

He attended Riverside Grade School and St. Mary’s Grade School. Claude served his country in the Army during the Korean War stationed at Camp Desert Rock, a military testing site, in Nevada.

 

Claude was united in marriage to Hazel Kittel on April 6, 1951 in Chicago, Ill. Claude worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 139. He enjoyed farming, antique tractors, and was a member of the North Central Wisconsin Antique Steam and Gas Engine Club.


Claude is lovingly survived by his children, Janet (Bob) Fleenor of Abbotsford and Gregory Apfelbeck of Abbotsford; his grandchild, Michelle Christensen of St. Paul, Minn., and his great grandchildren, Megan Rachel and Taylor Lynn Lehmkuhl. Claude is further survived by four brothers and six sisters.


Claude is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hazel; and three brothers.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church in Colby. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby.


The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
