Horswill, Richard M. (18 January 1875 –16 November 1962)

 

Funeral services for Richard M. Horswill, 87, of Neillsville were held Monday afternoon from the Bergemann Funeral Home.  The Rev. Lloyd Mauer of the Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.  Mr. Horswill died Friday of old age complications.

 

Richard M. Horswill, son of the late George and Elizabeth (Dunnigan) Horswill, was born January 18, 1875, in Black River Falls.  He received his education there and was graduated from a business college in Black River Falls.  He worked as a bookkeeper for the H. H. Bright Company in Superior and at Bright for several years; and for three years served as a rural mail carrier.

 

On January 28, 1903, he was married to the former Libbie Bowen in Eau Claire.  They moved to Longwood where they lived until 1919, when they moved to Neillsville.

 

While in Longwood Mr. Horswill became an auctioneer, a trade which he followed after moving to Neillsville.  He was one of the men who started the Production Credit Association of Neillsville and served as its secretary-treasurer for 14 years.  He retired in 1950.

 

Mr. Horswill is survived by his wife: five sons, Edward and Merlin of Milwaukee, Halbert and Robert of Neillsville, and Hugh of Janesville; and two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Joyce) Wall of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Donald (Edris) Paulus of La Crosse.  He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were: Robert Frantz, Herman North, Carl Opelt, E. H. Snyder, Archie Sparks and Claude Westphal.

 

Two hymns, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by Mrs. Robert D. Peters, accompanied by Mrs. Jas. A. Musil.

R. Thiel, all of Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nelson, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Moberg of Greenwood; and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Sparks of Humbird.
