Dedication services of the new basement of the Methodist Church last Sunday were attended, both forenoon and afternoon by capacity congregations, and about one hundred and fifty joined in the fellowship dinner at noon.  The erection of the basement was completed at a cost of about $2,000, all of which has been paid or pledged for payment.  Some expenses are yet to be incurred, such as a new installation of the furnace and a changing of the heating system.

The time of the afternoon session was advanced to 1:30, as the district superintendent was leaving that evening a trip to Lincoln, Neb.  The subject of Rev. White’s dedicatory sermon was, "A Church for Today."  Others taking part in the program were former pastors Rev. Floyd Fahlgren and Rev. Robert Sachtjen, and letters were read from Revs. Litchfield, Vaughan, and Wright.  Rev. G.W. Hohmann, pastor of St. John’s Church, and P.A. Hemmy, town chairman, each gave timely talks, as did also Rev. E.M. Ferguson, new pastor of the Augusta-Fairchild charge.  Herbert Stann of Merrillan, an 84-year-old ex-Salvation Army member, gave an appropriate solo and recitation.  Miss Alice Fowler read an interesting history of the church, and a promis was made that this would be published soon.  Miss Folwer also read a history of the Ladies Aid Society, which had been written by her mother a number of years ago.

At this service a special thanks was given to the different ones who had contribute labor and materials to the work.

Special musical numbers during the day were rendered by the Alma Center Methodist Church choir, and solos by Mrs. Robert Wright, Mrs. Kelly, Walter Jenswold and Earl Lanworthy.

The forenoon service was a devotional one, with a special sermon by Dist. Supt. White.
