Swanson, Charles  (11 JAN 1896-02 SEPT 1956)

 

The Rev. Charles J. Swanson, 60, pastor of Loyal and York Center Methodist Churches, died at 7:25 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 1956, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he was taken about and hour before, having suffered a heart attack.

 

He was born in Milwaukee, Jan. 11, 1896 and received his early education in public schools in that city. Later he became a graduate of the Methodist Theological Seminary at Evanston, Illinois.

 

He served the Moose Lake Methodist Church, Minn., for ten years. Among other churches he served were Newberry, Carney, Hermansville, and Iron Mountain, in Michigan, and Spirit, South Wayne, and Mauston in Wisconsin. He came to Loyal from Mauston in June 1955.

 

He was married to Elsie Waldo at Carney, Michigan, June 16, 1926. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Allen (Charlene) Carlsen, Champaign, Illinois; one son. Jon, at home; and two brothers, Oscar A. and Ralph J. from Milwaukee; and one grandchild. A daughter and a sister preceded him in death.

 

He was a member of the Masonic organization in Iron Mountain, Michigan and of the Loyal Rotary Club.

 

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Raymond Fleming, LaCrosse, Dist. Supt. Of Central District, was in charge oof the services and was assisted by other Methodist pastors. James Colby was soloist and Mrs. Byron Zepplin was organist.

 

Following the funeral services in the Methodist church the body will be taken to Milwaukee where it will repose in the Voth and Anderson Funeral Home until 2:45 p.m. Thursday. Following services at this time in the funeral home burial will be in Arlington cemetery.
