Gotter, Marjorie (26 AUG 1956)

American Beauty gladiolus set the color scheme for the marriage of Miss Marjorie Gotter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gotter of Springfield, to Edwin Ray Smith, son of Mrs. Freda L. Smith of Eugene.

The wedding took place August 26 at Eugene, Oregon, in Roselight Wedding Chapel, With Dr. Wesley G. Nicholson reading the 3 p.m. ceremony. Baskets of American Beauty gladiolus were placed at the sides of the church, with altar bouquet of the same flowers. Candelabra were decorated with ivy and white bows.

The bride wore a floor length dress of lace and satin. The bodice was fashioned with long sleeves with a Victorian waistline and a high scoop neckline. The skirt was made with lace over satin. Her silk illusion fingertip veil was held by a pillbox hat of Chantilly lace embroidered with seed pearls.

Her bridal bouquet was a shower of American Beauty roses, bridal wreath and stephanotis. She wore her maternal grandmother’s engagement ring.

Mrs. Roger Danielson of Aumsville was matron of honor. Other attendants were Miss Betty Jo Thomson of Creswell, Miss Beaudette Smith and Mrs. Keith Harris. Their dresses were of sheer frost white print nylon over American Beauty taffeta in ballerina length. They carried nosegays of American Beauty gladiolus centered with American Beauty roses.

Polly Gotter, sister of the bride, was flower girl in a floor length dress in the same style as that of the other attendants. Danny Fleming was ring bearer.

Victor Fennell of Portland was best man. Ushers were Roger Danielson, Bob Gayly, and Hubert Smith.

Jerry Julien sang "Through the Years" and "O Perfect Love." Mrs. Robert Brakel was the organist.

The bride’s mother and the groom’s mother were both attired in Wedgewood blue with white and black accessories.

A reception followed in Plymouth House where Mrs. Ferdinand Schaeffer cut the cake, assisted by Mrs. W. F. Schunk, aunt of the groom. Mrs. Ruby Lamb, the groom’s aunt served punch and Mrs. Norman Orr poured coffee. Mrs. Gary Vincent, Miss Lynn Bodding and Mrs. Ray Wrigglesworth assisted with serving.

For her going away outfit the bride wore a white knit suit with a black coat and black accessories and a corsage of American Beauty roses. The couple now is at home at 250-35 Cheshire Ave., in Eugene, where both will attend University of Oregon.
