Bertz, Darlene (? SEPT 1956)

In a double ring ceremony performed at Berlin, Wisconsin last Saturday Darlene Margaret Bertz was united in marriage to Jerome Eugene Ottoway. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Bertz, Berlin, residents of Loyal until 1953, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Ottoway of Berlin.

Performing the ceremony in St. Joseph’s Catholic church was the pastor, Rev. Fr. C. D. Monroe.

The bride’s gown was a floor length colonial style creation of chantilly lace over satin. It featured a fitted bodice and chapel train with a crown of sequins and pearls.

Miss Donna Bertz, twin sister of the bride, served as maid of honor, while bridesmaids were Miss Joan Bertz, sister of the bride and Miss Ann Covell, a friend of the bride. The maid of honor wore rose while the bridesmaids wore mint green waltz length gowns which displayed ruffled skirts with matching jackets and picture hats. The dresses combined net over satin and dark velveteen around the hats and waists with shoes to match.

Serving as best man was James Ottoway, the only brother of the groom, while groomsmen were Alden Werch, brother-in-law of the groom and Thomas Nickolaisen, a friend of the groom. Ushers were David Bertz and Francis Pavelske.

Miss Maureen Sanford, who was dressed similar to the bridesmaids, served as junior bridesmaid presenting a flower bouquet to the bride who laid them at the altar of the Blessed Virgin after Mass.

Colleen Curran, wearing a dress identical with the brides, served as flower girl while Tony Jodaeski was the ring bearer.

The bride’s mother viewed her daughter’s wedding in a navy blue dress featuring lace over taffeta. She wore a white orchid and carried matching accessories. The groom’s mother wore a dusty rose dress, with lace over taffeta and carried black accessories.

The bride is a graduate of the St. Anthony’s Catholic school and the Loyal High School class of 1953. She received a certificate in dental assisting at Marquette University in Milwaukee in 1954 and has been employed by Drs. W. and B. A. Bush in Berlin. The groom is a graduate of Berlin High School class of 1944, and served in the Navy until 1946. He completed a course in electricity at Purdue University in Indiana and has been employed at the Wisconsin Power and Light Co. since.

Following a wedding trip to the western states, including a visit to the Black Hills, the couple will reside at their new home on Route 2, Berlin.
