Kirby, Edward #3 (29 JAN 1860 - 27 DEC 1948)

 

Edward Kirby passed away at the home of his son in Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), Monday morning Dec. 27, 1948.

 

He was the son of Simon and Tina Kirby, and was born at Princeton, Ill. on Jan. 29, 1860.  Had he lived another month he would have been 89 years old.  He was a farmer by occupation, until retiring about fifteen years ago.  His home was at Fairchild until a short time ago when illness and infirmities of old age overtook him, and both he and his wife came to make their home with his son and wife in Humbird.

 

On August 18, 1890 he was united in marriage to Nellie Stine at Oregon, Ill.  Their early married life was spent in Illinois and Minnesota.  About eighteen years ago they moved to Wisconsin and have live in and around Fairchild until just recently.

 

He is survived by his wife; his only child, a son, Archie L. Kirby; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; together with neighbors and friends.  He was the last one of a large family of sisters and brothers.

 

Funeral services were held at St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church, with burial in Mentor Cemetery, Wednesday afternoon Dec. 29, 1948.  Mrs. Geo. Hohmann played the organ, and Mrs. Will Theiler and Mrs. Walter Smith sang "Sweet By and Bye," Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "The Old Rugged Cross."  The pastor, Rev. Hohmann, preached on "The Upward Look," taking his text from Acts 7:55.  Pallbearers were Fred Theiler, Fred Trachsel, Ivan Buss, Ervin Kelsh, Walter Smith and Archie Sparkes.

 

Those from away who came to attended the funeral of Mr. Kirby were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Senske of Augusta, Mr. and Mrs. Millard Spielman and son Henry of St. Croix Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Seelow of Eau Claire.
