Colby High School class of 1949 meets for reunion


The Colby High School class of 1949 held its 62 year reunion on Thursday, July 14, at Allison’s Steakhouse and Lounge in Abbotsford. Classmates and guests met at 3 p.m. to socialize and reminisce, and later enjoyed a family style dinner. 


The tables were decorated with yellow roses, the class flower. Allen Dins served as master of ceremonies.


Following the dinner, the names of deceased class members were read; Mercedes (Kaiser) Barr, Clyde Brehm, Milton Grieser, Everett Mossing, Wilbert Remus, Vivian (Schultz) Rogan, Betty (Rex) Blazel, Gloriette  (Olson) Ganz, Clinton Herrmann, Joyce Erdman, James Gutenberger, William (Bill) Bauer and Agnes (Brill) Bergs. 


Those deceased since the last reunion include William (Bill) Walhart, July 2009; Doris (Langjahr) Drexler, November 2009; Beatrice (Schoelzel) Marsh, March 2010; Marvin Thede, November 2010; Herbert Hoernke, February 2011; and Norman Sill, July 2011.


Then, Maxine Haas read noted sent by those who were unable to attend. Letters were received by James Dorst, Clarmont, CA; Roy (Elmer) Jewett, Apline, CA; Patricia (Reeves) Meissner, Mancelona, MI; Don Primeau, Springfield, VA; Ralph Schillinger, Wisconsin Rapids and George Vrana, Rochelle, IL.


Wallace Hamann once again received a fist or making the first reservation, names were drawn for door prizes, and all those attending were given wind chimes as a remembrance of the occasion. 


Those who attended from Colby were: Dolores (Firnstahl) Hedler, Alvera (Nosbisch) Gottschalk, Laura (Weix) Reise, Maxine (Forning) and George Haas, Allen Dins, Wallace Hamann.


Those who attended from Abbotsford were: Estelle (Kunze) Sossaman, Audrey (Leu) Hardrath, Albert (Junior) and Evedeen Podevels.


Those also attending were Ralph and Janice Nystrom, Cable; Betty (Berg) and Eddie Miller, Merrill; Mary (Sazama) Brodzinski, Athens; Delores (Brunner) Hartwig, Colgate; Jean (Blanchard) Packard, Madison. 


Reservations were made by Melvin and Jeanette Ewert of Germantown and Jake Hedler of Colby, but they were unable to attend. 


At the end of the evening, the class decided to hold a reunion next year and every year thereafter on the third Thursday in July at 3 p.m. at Allison’s.  No invitations will be sent.
