Rasmussen, Richard M. (20 June 1923 - 29 August 2011) With Flag

 

Richard M. Rasmussen, 88, of Lake Mills, died on Monday, August 29, 2011, at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Johnson Creek with family by his side.

 

He was born on June 20, 1923, in Thorp, WI, the son of the late Julius and Frances (Wagner) Rasmussen.

 

Richard married June Halsten on June 13, 1947. She died July 15, 1990.  He later married Dorothy (Skalet) Underwood on August 31, 1991.

 

He was a graduate of Thorp High School and later graduated from Marquette University.  He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

 

Richard has been a resident of Lake Mills since 1991, moving from Milwaukee.   He had been an accountant for Heil Co., in Milwaukee retiring in 1986.

 

Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, associate member of Vermont Lutheran Church in Black Earth, and member of the Clarence Bean-Warren George American Legion Post #67 in Lake Mills.  He enjoyed the history of aviation, being an EAA Museum docent, working on B-17 planes, and golfing.

 

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Lake Mills; one son, Ken (Lynn) of Cottage Grove; one daughter, Karen (Gary Aubry) Rasmussen of Cudahy; one step-son, Jerry (Erin) Underwood of Lecanto, FL; one step-daughter, Mary (Dennis) Kohl of Waterloo; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann (Frederick) Wenzel of Monona, WI; other relatives and friends.

 

Memorial services were held on Thursday Sept. 1, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Mark Dressel officiating.  Friends called from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

 

Memorial services were also held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at Vermont Lutheran Church in Black Earth with Pastor Chad Christensen officiating.  Friends called after 10 a.m. on Friday until the time of services.

 

Memorials would be appreciated to Vermont Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, or Rainbow Hospice Care.
