Zarnstorff, Carl A. (4 JAN 1919 - 9 OCT 2011)

 

Carl A. Zarnstorff , 92, a former Owen resident, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at his daughter's residence in Ladysmith.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee, with Rev. Tom Myhre officiating. Burial in St. Luke's Cemetery in the town of Beaver, Clark County.

Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Pallbearers were Paul Zarnstorff, Jeff Schuette, Michael Schuette, Walter Schuette, Lynn Smith, and Dean Smith.

Carl A. Zarnstorff was born Jan. 4, 1919, in McHenry County, Illinois, the son of Carl M. and Rosa Zarnstorff. The family settled in Walworth County, Wisconsin shortly after his birth. Carl worked on the family farm, was employed by his older brothers, and was a sought-after softball league pitcher until he was drafted to serve in World War II. While in the service he taught soldiers the operation and maintenance of the new model tanks.

Carl and Elpha M. Schuette were married on Jan. 30, 1944, at St. Luke's Church, South Green Grove. They lived on the Army base in Maryland until moving to Owen in 1945. Carl spent most of his working years after the war working at Bergstrom's/Town & Country Service in Owen, later becoming a co-owner. He continued as service manager until his retirement in 1984. During his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and giving generously of his time to help others. Carl was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee.

Survivors include a daughter, Aileen Tauchen of Ladysmith; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Blane) Hulle, Philip Tauchen, and Kristina Tauchen; one great-grandchild, Addison Hulle; and one sister, Cora Marzahl.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Elpha; 10 brothers, Elmer, Albert, Martin, Harvey, Roy, Leslie, Robert, Donald, Vernon, and infant brother Lyle; and four sisters, Ella, Lillian, Viola and Lucille.

Maurina Schilling Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
