Rath, Hazel D. (18 May 1885 - 2 June 1963)

 

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday from the Gilbertson Funeral Home in Granton for Mrs. Hazel D. Rath, 78, of Granton, who died Sunday in an Eau Claire hospital. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of Neillsville officiated.  Burial was made in the Windfall Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Rath, the former Hazel Downer, was born May 18, 1885, in the Windfall community, near Granton. She received her education in the rural schools of that community and attended the Neillsville High School.  She taught in the Granton area until her marriage in 1907, to the late Dr. Russell R. Rath.

 

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star; the Modern Priscillas of Granton; the original board of five founders of the Samson Memorial Library in Granton; and was active in Red Cross work.

 

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Callie Schoengarth of Granton, and two nieces.

 

Pallbearers were: Dr. Victor Tharp, George Tjaden, Lloyd Spry, Jesse Schultz and Alfred Moldenhauer.
