Hubbard, Mr. & Mrs. Bert W. (Gold - 5 OCT 1959)

 

Mr. and Mrs. Bert W. Hubbard celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 3, 1959 by renewing their vows at the Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Cecil Ward officiating.  Carole Henkens sang "Because" and "The Lord’s Prayer," accompanied by Jan Boardman.

 

The honored couple, wearing corsages of yellow roses, greeted their guests at an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Methodist Church basement, which was decorated in gold with fall leaves and chrysanthemums.  A clarinet duet, "Silver Threads among the Gold" was presented by Karla Podhola and Lila Baldeschwiler, accompanied by Barbara Guell. The couple was the recipient of many lovely gifts including a money tree.

 

Miss Ruth Cat, born Nov. 2, 1888 at Town of Peru, Dunn Co., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Catt Sr., and Bert Hubbard, born Nov. 24, 1887 at Town of Peru, Dunn Co., son of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Hubbard, were married Oct. 5, 1909 at Durand, Wis., with Rev. Rowland officiating.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard operated a dairy farm there until 1920 when they moved with their family to the Town of Worden, Clark County until two years ago, when they retired and moved to the city of Thorp.

 

The couple has five children, Evelyn (Mrs. Floyd Cook), Thorp; Alvera (Mrs. Marce Wagener), Stockton, Ill.; Allen and Dean of Thorp; 23 grandchildren and 4r great-grandchildren.  One son Joseph died in infancy.

 

An attendant at the wedding 50 years ago, Mrs. John Misfeldt, Thorp, sister of Bert Hubbard, was present for the celebration.

 

A charivari and mock wedding on Oct. 5 (their actual wedding date) was rendered them on behalf of "The Friendly Neighbors Club," Mrs. Hubbard being a Charter member of over 28 years.

 

Relatives and friends attending were from Osahis, Minn., Durand, Eau Galle, Strum, Abbotsford, Withee, Cassville, Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Tucson, Ariz.; Perry, Dubuque, Iowa; Red Granite, Menomonee Falls, Spencer, Eau Claire, Merrill, Madison, Milwaukee, Wis., Stockton, Ill.; St. Paul, Minnesota, Cadott, Stanley, Menasha and Medford.
