Poppe, Robert E. #2 (14 AUG 1907 - 3 JAN 1961)

Death came late Tuesday night to Robert Poppe, former Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) businessman, who succumbed to a lingering illness at a hospital in Menomonie, where he had been a medical patient for more than two weeks.

His remains were returned to Owen where services were conducted from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home at 2:00 o’clock Friday, Jan. 6th.  The Rev. Mr. Donaldson of Menomonie conducted the final rites with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Donald Poppe, Edward Miller, Bernard Poppe, Norbert Bruchert, Charles Neitzel, and Walter Emmerson.  During the services vocal numbers were rendered by Rev. and Mrs. Duane Morschek.

Robert Ernest Poppe was born Aug. 14, 1907 in the Town of Longwood, being the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Poppe.  On Nov. 22, 1930 he was united in marriage to Violet Henderson, in a ceremony performed at Thorp.  For several years they farmed in the Town of Longwood, only to dispose of the property and operate a tavern in the Village of Withee for several years.  For the past several years "Rob" had been engaged in heavy construction work with a highway contractor.

Mourning his passing are his wife, Violet; four sons, Robert, Orangeville, Calif., Richard, Abbotsford, Dnaile, Withee, and Jack, Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. (Janet) Zaborowski and Mrs. Carl (Beverly) Sillampa, Owen, and eight grandchildren.
