Final rites for Mrs. Walter Nichols, 87, were held yesterday morning, March 1, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen.  Father H.L. Crubel officiated with burial being made at Pine Hill Cemetery, Curtiss.  Pallbearers were George and Archie Hamm, Harry Williams, Oscar Neibacker, Enoch Nowak and Matt Nowak.

Death came to her at Appleton, Wis., where she had made her home for the past three years and was attributed to complications of old age.

Mrs. Nichols, nee Henrietta Schroder, was born Dec. 5, 1873 at Hutchinson, Minn.  She made her home in Minnesota until she was nine years of age, at which time she moved to Appleton with her parents.  On Feb. 5, 1901, she was united in marriage to the late Walter H. Nichols in a ceremony performed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Six years later the couple came to this community, settling on a farm where she made her home for 51 years.  Her husband passed away in 1954 and three years ago she returned to Appleton to make her home.

Surviving are three sons, Walter, Appleton, and Earl and Raymond of rural Owen; six daughters, Mrs. C. (Leona) Buchholz, route 2, Owen, Mrs. James (Ruth) Stewart, Kokato, Minn., Mrs. Walter (Blanche) Williams, Blaisdel, N.Y., Mrs. Art (Florence) Hansen, route 2, Withee, Mrs. John (Geneva) Coenen, Appleton, and Mrs. John (Eleanor) Weld, Stetsonville; 27 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
