Zajac, John (9 April 1892 - 18 November 1963)

 

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Georgas Funeral Home for John Zajac, 71, of Rt. 2, Neillsville, who died Monday in Memorial Hospital. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ will officiate.  Burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Mr. Zajac was born April 9, 1892, in Poland, the son of the late Joe and Frances (Dubuiel) Zajac.  He attended school in Poland and at the age of 15 he came to America.  He located in Chicago, where he worked in a tannery.   He was married to the former Mary Dizicki in 1911. Four children were born to them.  She died in 1921.  In 1922, he was married to the former Sophia Halatek of Chicago.

 

In 1915 Mr. Zajac and his family moved to Mosinee, where they homesteaded and he worked in the paper mill. They later returned to Chicago, where they operated a grocery store, returning to Wisconsin in 1926.  This time they located in the Town of Seif, where they cleared land and built a set of farm buildings. They retired from farming in 1957.  Following his retirement Mr. Zajac built the Moraine Motel, west of Neillsville, which he operated for the last six years.

 

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Marion) Ziegler of Marion, and Mrs. J. B. (Joan) Hennion of Niles, Mich.; two sons, Thaddeus of Neillsville and Casimer of Los Angeles, Calif.  Other survivors are a brother, Peter Zajac of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday for John Zajac, 71, of Neillsville, who died November 18.  The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ officiated at services from the Georgas Funeral Home.  Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were: Andrew Turczyn, Dwight Ziegler, DeWayne Ziegler, Dennis Zajac, Russel Vandeberg and John Halatek. 

 

Dr. Sarah Rosekrans sang "Abide with Me" and "An Evening Prayer" accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

 

People from away attending were Mr. and Mrs. Art Ziegler, Dwight Ziegler and Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Ziegler, all of Marion; Casimer Zajac of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. J. B. Hennion of Niles, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stauek of Marshfield; Mrs. Ed Ziegler, Mrs. Louis Ziegler and Mr. and Mrs. George Nast, all of Willard; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Zajac, Julius Halatek, Mr. and Mrs. John Halatek and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Popiolek, all of Chicago.
