Shaffer, John F. #2 (3 JAN 1868 - 8 SEP 1961)


John Franklin Shaffer, a resident of this community for the past 50 years passed away quietly Friday at the Havenet Nursing Home, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), where he had been a resident for the past several years.  His death was due to complications of old age.  Mr. Shaffer had attained the age of 93 years, 8 months and 5 days.


Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 10 from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home.  Rev. Ralph Claybaugh of the Congregational Church, Owen, officiated, with burial being made in Riverside Cemetery.


Pallbearers were Julius Johnson, Fred Hoeper, Otto Bublitz, Rheinholt Buss, James and Howard Devine.


Born Jan. 3, 1868, at Newton, Iowa, John Shaffer came to Clark County in 1911, first settling on a farm in the Town of Green Grove.  Three years later he moved to a farm at the east city limits of Owen, where he resided until his retirement to Owen.


On April 4, 1900, he and the late Ida Lee Ross exchanged wedding vows in a ceremony performed at Rock Island, Ill.  She preceded him in death, passing away in 1940.


He is survived by a son, Edward of Finland, Minnesota, and a daughter, Mrs. Hester Welker, Owen; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
