Hubbard, Clarice E. "Dolly" (17 AUG 1920 - 16 JAN 2012)

Clarice "Dolly" Eleanor Hubbard, 91, passed onto her eternal rest on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, peacefully at her home surrounded by her children.

Clarice Eleanor Warner was born on Aug. 17, 1920, in Thorp, Wisconsin, to John and Esther (Soderberg) Warner. Clarice attended Thorp schools and graduated from Thorp High School in 1938.

Clarice attended the Bellin Hospital School of Nursing in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After three years of nursing school, Clarice graduated as a registered nurse and moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, to pursue her medical career. During World War II, she enlisted in the Navy as a nurse. Clarice was stationed at Mare Island near San Francisco.

After the war, Clarice worked at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

Clarice married the love of her life, Dean Hubbard, on May 12, 1945. Clarice and Dean farmed south of Thorp from 1945 until 1978. After retiring from farming, Clarice and Dean moved to Thorp.

Clarice was a proud, lifelong member of the Thorp United Methodist Church. She was also very active in the United Methodist Women, Friendly Neighbors Homemakers, and an avid bridge player. For more than 31 years, Clarice organized and ran the American Red Cross blood drives in Thorp, Wisconsin. Clarice coordinated the collection of more than 18,000 pints of blood during her tenure. She retired as blood drive coordinator in 2006.

Clarice was actively involved in the Thorp Alumni Association, serving in a variety of roles. Clarice enjoyed being a secret pen pal with students in Thorp Elementary School.

Family was everything to Clarice. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who inspired all. Clarice was a modest and humble behind-the-scenes lady who never forgot a birthday or anniversary. Her house was always open to visitors with food and baking ever present.

She was a vocal Green Bay Packers fan and supported the Thorp Cardinals.

She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the community at large.

Clarice is survived by her four sons and one daughter, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her children include Dennis (Fay) Hubbard of Esko, Minn., Corinne (Ron) Gjerning of Altoona, Gordon (Nancy) Hubbard of Sheboygan, Gerald (Susie) Hubbard of Medford, and Scott (Luauna) Hubbard of Thorp. Grandchildren include Travis Hubbard of Madison, Mathew Hubbard of Eau Claire, Anna (Chad) Lovaas of Eau Claire, Crissy (Morgan) Hanson of Chippewa Falls, JoAnne (Joe) Korpi of Ogden, Iowa, Bethany (Trapper) Niccum of Durango, Colo., Adam Schneider of Baltimore, Maryland, Paul (Megan) Schneider of Thornhurst, Pennsylvania, JD, Carly and Max Hubbard of Medford, and Collin Hubbard of Thorp. Great-grandchildren include Aubrey Lovaas, Dean, Quinn and Calvin Hanson, Joshua and Josiah Korpi, Evan and Aiden Niccum and Patrick Schneider.
