Durbin, Martha E. (14 DEC 1913 - 4? FEB 1962)

 

Final rites were held yesterday, Wednesday, Feb. 7, for Mrs. Homer Durbin, who has suffered from a lingering illness for many years.  Services were held at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home with Rev. Gene W. Carlson, Greenwood, officiating.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery, Withee.

 

Serving as pallbearers were Frank Hendricks, Frank Kowaloski, Norbert Bruchert, William McAdam, Basil Wenzel and Levi Dickinson.

 

Mrs. Homer Durbin, nee Martha Elizabeth Craig, was born Dec. 14, 1913, at Koeliztown, Mo.  For several years she taught high school at What Cheer, Iowa, and on June 21, 1936, was united in marriage to Homer Durbin in a ceremony performed at What Cheer.

 

Succumbing to a health affliction she was cared for at a sanatorium at Superior for several years, and later moved to the Clark County Hospital, where she has been a resident for the past five years.

 

During her active years she was a pillar in the Methodist Church at What Cheer, Iowa.

 

Her passing is mourned by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. William (Marie) Kostick, Withee, and a grandson.

 

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Felix Poznanski, Milwaukee; Mrs. Floyd Dick, Harvey, Ill., Mrs. Robert Tulle, Skokie, Ill.; Mrs. William Tancer and daughter of What Cheer, Iowa; Arthur Craig, Sallsburg, Mo., and Paul Bates, Iowa.
