Thorson, Alvin G. #2 (15 JAN 1874 - 31 MAR 1962)

One of the community’s oldest residents, Alvin George Thorson, who has resided in Owen and Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) communities for the past 59 years, died Saturday.

Death came to Mr. Thorson at Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis where he was admitted after becoming ill while visiting in Minneapolis with relatives.

Services were held at 2:00 o’clock Tuesday, April 3, from the First Congregational Church, Owen.  The parish pastor, Rev. Ralph Claybaugh, officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were his six sons, Roy, Harry, Orville, Alvin, Gordon and Edward.

Carrying the floral offerings were Mesdames Edward, Orville, Alvin and Gordon Thorson.

Alvin Thorson was born Jan. 15, 1874, in Winnebago Co., Wis., coming to this community in 1903 when he began to farm in the Longwood area.  He and his wife, the former Mattie Erickson, whom he married Jan. 20, 1894, at Neenah, raised their family and farmed prosperously until 1934, at which time they moved to Withee.  Here he operated a dairy for eight years and then of late had helped of and on at the grocery stores operated by his sons in Owen and Withee.

Alvin Thorson was a devoted father and enjoyed the splendid unity and companionship of his family who mourn their loss.

He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Nettie Haakeson and Mrs. Amy Rasmussen, Racine, Mrs. Mable Pape, Larson, Wis., and Mrs. Libby Erickson, Winchester; six sons, Roy, Menomonee Falls, Harry, Withee, Alvin Jr., Fond du Lac, Orville and Edward, Minneapolis, and Gordon, Owen; 22 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
