Krause, William H. (5 OCT 1888 - 27 JUN 1962)

 

William H. Krause, prominent businessman, farmer, and renowned auctioneer throughout north central Wisconsin was fell by a fatal heart attack late Wednesday afternoon, June 27th, 1962.  The attack came while he was calling on a farmer friend in his field in the Town of Taft, Taylor County.

 

Although he had been receiving some medical care the past several months his health was believed to be good and the new of his death came as a severe shock to his family and wide acquaintance of friends.

 

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thorp, with the Rev. Robert Olson officiating.  Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.

 

Serving as pallbearers were Dr. G.A. Schief, Rob Broeron, William Klouda, Don Seaholm, Eugene Laurent and Charles Schmidt.  Honorary pallbearers included Hjalmer Brandsness, Ross Lawrence, Bert Hubbard, Jack Borowick, Harold Christensen and Gordon Wolf.

 

William H. Krause, 73, was born Oct. 5, 1888, at Johnson Creek, Wis.  After receiving his early education he attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison and later a school in auctioneering, a career which he had successfully pursued for the past 52 years.

 

In addition to his popularity and success as an auctioneer he owned and successfully operated several farms in the Thorp, Withee and Owen communities.  In addition he was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Thorp.  He also served as president of the People’s Exchange Bank of Thorp and was a member on its board at the time of his death.

 

His death is being mourned by his widow, the former Martha Schultz, whom he married April 3, 1918, at Thorp; one son, W.E. Krause, Withee; a sister, Ida Cole, and a brother, Fred Krause, both of Fort Atkinson; and a grandson.
