Christophersen, Peter R. (19 FEB 1893 - 10 FEB 1963)

Relatives and friends of Peter R. Christophersen were shocked and saddened when they learned of his sudden death Sunday forenoon.

He had stepped out of his rural home on route 1, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), to dispose of some garbage when he was stricken with a fatal heart attack.

Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 2:00 o’clock from Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee.  The parish pastor, Rev. Beryl Knudsen, officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Vic Jessen, Gil Sorensen, Emil Looker, Karl Jensen, Neil Vater and Arnold Rasmussen.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of the Danish Brotherhood Society, Albert Jensen, Jess Smith, Andrew Smith, Melvin Smith, Carl Riber and Viggo Rasmussen.

The Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion post was in charge of military services held at the graveside.

Peter Christophersen, who was 69 years, 11 months and 21 days of age, was born Feb. 19, 1893 in Langland, Denmark.  He came to the United States in 1910.  In 1917 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with the U.S. Intelligence Service behind enemy lines in Germany during World War I.  On March 9, 1921 he was united in marriage to Alma Olsen in a ceremony performed at Withee.  Since that time the couple has resided and farmed in the Town of Longwood.  Mr. Christophersen was a faithful member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post 123 of Owen.

He is mourned by his widow, two brothers, Chris of rural Withee, and Knud Christophersen, still living in Denmark; a sister, Mrs. Wallace (Marie) Wood, Withee; three sons, Clarence of St. Paul, Minn., Gordon of Greenwood, and Peter of Thorp, and nine grandchildren.
