Nicholson, John W. (22 AUG 1872 - 20 FEB 1963)

 

John W. Nicholson, a resident of rural Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 57 years, succumbed to a lingering illness at his home late Wednesday night, Feb. 20th, 1963.  He had attained the age of 91 years.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Saturday, Feb. 23, from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home.  Rev. LeRoy Urman, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, officiated.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Six grandsons served as pallbearers while the floral offerings were in charge of six granddaughters.

 

Mr. Nicholson was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Nicholson, being born Aug. 22, 1872, at Webster, Neb.  On Jan. 22, 1906, he was united in marriage to former Ella Minnie Pokel in a ceremony performed at Withee.  Here the couple has since made their home farming in the Town of Longwood with the exception of several years when they resided in Viroqua.

 

His lingering illness and passing is mourned by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Caroline) Adams, La Crosse, Mrs. Edna Neefe, Richland Center, Mrs. Howard (Ella) Neuman, Owen, Mrs. Carl (Ruth) Weber, Greenwood, and Mrs. Donald (Vivian) Scott, Stockwell, Ill.; five sons, Charles, Verona, Ralph, Lafayette, Ind., Allen, Memphis, Tenn., Lawrence, Arlington, Va., and Beuford, Greenwood; 37 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
