Simons, Martha (6 June 1885 - 15 November 1964)

 

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Martha Simons, 79, of Humbird, who died Sunday at the Sunset Nursing Home in Fairchild.  The Rev. Ralph Walker and O. E. S. Lodge, No. 280, of Humbird, were in charge of the services from the Methodist Church in Humbird. Burial was made in the Mentor Cemetery, near Humbird.

 

Mrs. Simons was born June 6, 1885, in Altoona. She was the daughter of the late Julius and Doris (Schultz) Hahn. She was married to the late Arthur F. Simons on November 4, 1917, in Neillsville.  Mrs. Simons had been in Fairchild since 1960.

 

She attended schools in Humbird and lived there most of her life. She and her husband operated a hardware store in Humbird for several years.  After his death she sold the store.  In 1960 she became ill and had a leg amputated.

 

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mae Hahn of Maywood, Ill.; nieces and nephews.

 

Pallbearers were: Raymond Stuve, Nordahl Fristad, Arthur Allen, Harold Losey, Allen Yule and Archie Kirby.

 

"How Great Thou Art" and "There is a Place of Quiet Rest" were sung by Gordon Gearing and Mrs. Mary Ann Johnson accompanied by Mrs. Gladys Losey.

 

People from out of town attending were: Mrs. Mae Hahn of Maywood, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Blum and family of Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hahn and family of Hudson; Mrs. Rose Spring of Monticello; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Losey, Allen Yule, Mrs. H. Emmanuel, Mrs. Howard Thur and Margaret Walker, all of Fairchild; Mrs. Hanna McNaire of Eau Claire; and Mrs. Kate Van Horn.

 

She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America; O. E. S. of Humbird; charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Humbird.
