Clendenning, May Allie (25 August 1899 - 15 December 1964)

 

Mrs. May Clendenning, 65, lifelong resident of Greenwood, died at 1:50 p.m. December 15 in Neillsville.  She had been a hospital patient for a month.  Previous to that she had been a hospital patient in Marshfield, where she was admitted October 13.

 

Mrs. Clendenning, the former May Allie Drinkwine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Drinkwine, was born August 25, 1899, in the Town of Warner, near Greenwood. At the age of 10 she went to live with and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Gruwell.  Mr. Gruwell died in 1937 and his wife in 1943.

 

Mrs. Clendenning was a member of Grace Methodist Church and its Woman’s Society of Christian Service; the Forest Queen Camp Royal Neighbors of America; the American Legion Auxiliary; and the Neighborhood group.

 

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lyle (Addie) Hubble of Rochester, Mich.; and two brothers, Girlen Drinkwine and Joseph Drinkwine of Michigan; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held December 18 from Grace Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Doering, pastor of the Methodist Church in Loyal, officiating.  Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were: Wilbur Stewart, Viv Carteron, Arthur Syth, John Syth, Donald Decker and Henry Keller.

 

Mrs. Don Warner was the accompanist, when Mrs. Wayne Foss and Miss Trudy Hill sang.
