Lewerenz, Carl R. (20 February 1891 - 22 February 1965)


Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, for Carl R. Lewerenz, 74, of Neillsville, who died Monday in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. The Rev. Norman Lindloff officiated. Burial was made in the Elroy cemetery.


Mr. Lewerenz was born February 20, 1891, in Germany.  He came to the United States with his parents at the age of six years.  His family located in northern Wisconsin, near tomahawk, where they were engaged in farming.  He attended Tomahawk schools.  In 1912 the family moved onto a farm near Elroy.  He was married May 15, 1917, to the former Elsa Preuss in Elroy.


Mr. Lewerenz was a buttermaker for several years before moving to Neillsville.  Here he was employed in the restaurant and locker business, retiring in 1956.


He is survived by his wife; five children, Rhinehart of Marshfield, David and Donald of Milwaukee, Mrs. Henry (Laraine) Broad of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Willis (Velda) Volz of Neillsville; nine grandchildren; and a brother, Otto W, Lewerenz of West Palm Beach, Fla.


Pallbearers were: Henry Naedler, Paul Bartell, Paul Jacob, Robert Prochazka, Ray Kutsche and Werner Jenni.


Students of the St. John’s School, accompanied by Victor Lehmann, sang, "I’m But a Stranger Here," and "Asleep in Jesus."


Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.
