Bjorn, Sylvester V. (27 FEB 1888 - 7 SEP 1963)

Funeral services for Sylvester V. Bjorn, "Grandpa" as he was affectionately known to his neighborhood friends, were held at 2:00 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 10, from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home.  Father Richard Hewetson, pastor of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers included Albert Nowak, Milford Ewert, Ensio and Edward Bjorn, Oscar Buss and George Plantico.  In charge of the flora offerings were Mesdames Nowak, Ewert, Plantico and Toni Phillips.

He passed away Sept. 7, 1963 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been confined but a couple of days.  However, his health had been failing the past several months.

Born Feb. 27, 1888, in Finland, he came to the United States as a young man of 18 years, settling in Illinois.  On March 1, 1908, he was united in marriage to Ann Myllynienei in a ceremony performed at DeKalb, Ill.  In 1928 the couple moved to this community, settling on a farm in the town of Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.), where they farmed until his retirement in 1945.  Since that time he operated a small beer bar patronized by neighborhood residents who know him affectionately as "Pop."

His passing is mourned by his wife; one son, Theodore Bjorn, Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Uno (Mary) Fillipp, Owen, Mrs. Allan (Doris) Hardrath, Medford; one sister, Mrs. Sandra Rintalahti, still living in Finland; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
