Newman, Sophie (23 NOV 1885 - 01 DEC 1940)

 

 

LIFE LONG RESIDENT DIES ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1

 

Sophie Newman, wife of Herman R. Newman, passed away at her home in the town of Brighton Sunday evening, Dec. 1, 1940, at 4:40 o’clock.  Death occurred as the result of a stroke at the age of 55 years and 8 days.

 

Sophie Oelreich was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin, November 23, 1885.  She came to the town of Brighton at the age of two years, where her folks purchased a farm now occupied by a brother of the deceased, George Oelreich.  She was married to Frank Luepke on October 15, 1903.  On January 10, 1915, Mr. Luepke passed away, the cause of death being pneumonia.  On May 9, 1917, she was married to Herman R. Newman, also of the town of Brighton.

 

Surviving are her husband Herman R. Newman, and her five children:  George Luepke, Spencer; Walter Luepke, Unity; (Milda) Mrs. Ervin Rindfleisch, Spencer; Emil Luepke, Spencer, and Herman Luepke, Unity; nine grandchildren and five brothers, Charlie, Frank, Fred, Willie and George, all of Spencer; one sister, Anne (Mrs. Charles Dittman), proceeded her in death on Feb. 28, 1935.

 

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at St. John’s Lutheran church at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. C. Hinz with interment in the church cemetery.  Flower girls were Mrs. Flora Barwinick, Eleanor, Oelrich, Marshfield; Mrs. Dorothy Vanderhoof, Alice Newman, Mrs. Dora Huber and Miss Esther Oelrich, Spencer.  Pallbearers were Charles Oelrich, Frank Oelrich, Fred Oelrich, William Oelrih, George Oelrich and William Newman, all of Spencer.
