Gust, Suzanne Carol (Marriage - 4 September 1965)

Marriage vows were exchanged Saturday noon at a mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hewitt by Miss Suzanne Carol Gust, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Florian Gust of Rt. 1 Auburndale, and Kenneth Arthur Bertz, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bertz, Sr., of Loyal.

A double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Edward Bertz, cousin of the groom, before an altar graced with yellow ‘mums and white gladioli. The girls’ choir, under the direction of Sister Nivard, sang the mass. Sister Nivard Marie was the organist.

Three hundred fifty guests witnessed as Mr. Gust gave his daughter in marriage.

The bride chose a floor-length gown of silk shantung, with appliqués of Alencon lace on the skirt and bodice, detailed with seed pearls and beads. The bodice was fitted with a scoop neckline and long, tapered sleeves. The detachable train was attached to the waist with a bow.  A peau de soie pillbox hat held the bouffant veil of tulle, which was attached at the back by a bow and tiny rosettes.  She carried a bouquet of white Fuji ‘mums, entwined with lemon leaves and ivy.

Lt. Dawn Krueger of Fort Riley, Kans., was maid of honor.  Sheila Ule of Marshfield and Jeanne Gust of Auburndale were bridesmaids.  They were attired in floor-length sheath dresses of peau de soie.  Their willow green bodices featured scoop necklines and elbow length sleeves. Their skirts were gold and green brocade. A double bow of willow green peau de soie completed their attire.  They carried bouquets of gold Fuji ‘mums with lemon leaves.

William Herr of Greenwood served as bestman.  James Gust of Auburndale and Donald Larsen of Neillsville were groomsmen.  Ushers were Harold Gust, Jr., of Marshfield and Ronald Kocher of Greenwood.

A dinner followed the ceremony at the school hall.  A reception was held at the V. F. W. Hall in Marshfield.

The bride is a graduate of Auburndale High school and attended St. Mary’s School of x-ray technology in Wausau.  She is employed as an x-ray technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.  The groom graduated from Loyal High School and attended the University of North Dakota.  He is in the pulp business with his father.

Guest attending the wedding from California, Illinois, Kansas; Milwaukee, Beloit, Auburndale, Hewitt, Colby, Nekoosa, Wisconsin Rapids, Greenwood, Loyal, Marshfield and Milladore.
