Wachholz, Leonard J. (5 June 1889 - 1 August 1967)

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon from St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church for Leonard J. Wachholz, 78, of Neillsville, who died August 1, 1967, at his home. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Wachholz was born June 5, 1889, in Westfield, son of the late Emil and Laura (Schwanke) Wachholz. He attended schools in that area and in later years farmed there, moving to Clark County in 1928 and locating on a farm in the Town of York. On April 17, 1915, he was married to the former Julia Duesterhoeft in Westfield. They retired from farming in 1945 when they moved to Neillsville. Mr. Wachholz was employed by the city from 1945 to 1963, retiring at that time due to ill health.

He is survived by his wife; five children, Mrs. William (Doris) Simek of Neillsville, Hilton (Bud) Wachholz of Columbus, O., Miss Elaine Wachholz, Mrs. William (Violet) Neuhaus and Glen Wachholz, all of St. Paul, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Alvina Duesterhoeft and Mrs. Eleanor Wachholz of Los Angeles, Cal.; a brother, the Rev. Edward Wachholz of Los Angeles, Cal.; and six grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Oscar, Lawrence and Gust DeMert, Earl Zille, Robert Lynch and Darrel Raine.

“Asleep in Jesus” and “The Lord’s My Shepherd” were sung by Mrs. Harold Mayer, accompanied at the organ by Victor Lehmann.
