Wirtala, Diane Marie (Marriage - 12 August 1967)

Miss Diane Marie Wirtala, daughter of Mrs. Vendla Wirtala of Withee was escorted by her brother, William Wirtala, into Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood Saturday afternoon, where she was given in marriage to Denis Roger Wendt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Wendt of Owen.

The officiating minister was the Rev. Arvid Myhrwold of Greenwood. Miss Sharon Heideman sang, “O Perfect Love” and the Rev. Myhrwold sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Both were accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Don Warner.

For her wedding the bride chose a long-sleeved gown of peau de soie satin, with an empire waistline. Bands of lace enhanced the waist and hem of the gown and bordered the train of the a-line skirt. A pearl and sequin studded headpiece held her elbow length veil. She carried French cascade bouquet of elegant carnations and yellow roses.

Miss Carol Wirtala, as maid of honor, and Mrs. Doug Missling, Miss Nancy Stewart and Miss Ginger Will, as bridesmaids, were seen in aqua floor length, sheath-style dresses styled with empire waistlines. Cotton lace was featured in the bodice, sleeves and trains. The skirt of the dresses was of rayon georgette over taffeta. Each carried two long stemmed yellow roses tied with yellow ribbon.

Melvin Niemi was best man. Groomsmen were Dave Friske, Doug Missling and Edgar Wirtala. Ushers were Myron Wirtala and Duane Olson.

The bride, a 1964 graduate of Owen-Withee High School, will be a senior in Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire. She is affiliated with Kappa Delta Pi Sorority.

The groom was graduated in 1963 from Greenwood High School and attended the short course at the University of Wisconsin. He is employed on his father’s farm.

On returning from a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin and Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Wendt will reside on Rt. 1 Owen.
