SARAH METCALF


Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Schiller Funeral Home for Mrs. Sarah Metcalf, whose death occurred Saturday morning, Rev. G. W. Longenecker conducting the rites. Burial was in the Neillsville Cemetery.


Mrs. Sarah Cornelius Pitcher was born in 1863 in West Bend (Washington Co., Wis.), the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pitcher. In 1880 she was married to James Meyers of West Bend, 3 daughters being born to this union Mamie, Mrs. Charles Murray of Gregory, S.D. Florence (Pitcher), Mrs. Lester Newman of Fresno, Calif. and Sadie (Pitcher), Mrs. Henry Herian of Neillsville. Mrs. Herian is the only surviving child of this marriage. Mr. Meyers died at La Crosse of a heart attack. In 1888, she was married to Andrew Metcalf of Neillsville, 2 daughters and 2 sons being born to this marriage Mrs. Will Jones of Gregory, S.D. Mrs. John Abletter of Neillsville Eli of Osseo and Walter preceded her in death. Also surviving are Louis Pitcher, a brother at Merrillan, Wis., 29 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Five sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Metcalf was a woman of kindly disposition and was ever ready to do all she could for others.
