CATHERINE GADKE (1912-2000)


Catherine GADKE, 88, of Stanley died on March 27, 2000, at Oakbrook Manor.


Catherine was born on January 1, 1912, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (DRACE) LICHT, in Stanley. She grew up attending area schools and graduating from Stanley High School.


Catherine attended Teachers' training school, later teaching in the Town of Edson. On January 6, 1931, she was united in marriage to Ray GADKE. They made their home in Chicago for 15 years, then moved to Junction City where they remained for three years before returning to Stanley permanently.


Her husband, Ray, passed away in 1958. Then Catherine operated a country store. She later became a certified nursing assistant and worked at Victory medical Center until retirement.


Survivors include four sons, James (Evelyn) of Boyd, William (Alice) of Rice Lake, Ray, Jr., (Paula) of Platteville, and Donald "Ponch" (Joan) of Stanley one daughter, Barbara (Joseph) EMERT of Janesville 25 grandchildren 49 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.


Catherine is preceded in death by her parents her husband, Ray three daughters, Mary in 1967, Vera in 1985, and Shirley in 1981 and two sisters, Lorena and Veronica.


Funeral services were held on March 29th at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Robert Nelson officiating. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery. Her grandsons served as pallbearers.


Plombon Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
