JOHN H. LEOPOLD  (1863 - 1945)

John H. Leopold, 81, of Neillsville, died at St. Joseph's hospital, Marshfield, on July 11, after an illness of 2 1/2 years. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 14, at the Jaster funeral home. The Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiated. Burial was made in the Dells Dam cemetery.

Mr. Leopold was born August 7, 1863, on a farm near Denver, Ill, to George and Elizabeth Leopold. He had been a resident of Clark county for nearly 81 years. He worked as a logger at Dells Dam and took an active part in the last log drive on the Black River.
John Leopold was married to Harriet A. Holcomb on June 29, 1936, at LaCrosse. One daughter was born to them.

Mr. Loepold was one of a family of 10 children and all preceded him in death except one sister, Mrs. Mary Schultz of Dells Dam.

Other surviving relatives are his wife and daughter, Mrs. Ferrol Overhouse, and one granddaughter, Valarie Overhouse.

Pallbearers for the funeral were Lawrence McKivitt, Eugene McKivitt, Tony Hantke, Phillip Schultz, Guy Schultz and Arne Baker.

Out-of-town relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McKivitt of Black River Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McKivitt, Merrillan Mr.and Mrs. William Sherlock, Baraboo Cpl. and Mrs. Soliu of Superior Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rundel, Humbird and Mr. and Mrs. Arne Baker of Black River Falls.
