RHODA BERNICE SMITH DIES AT MILWAUKEE.


The entire community was saddened last Thursday to learn of the death of Miss Bernice Smith at Milwaukee.


Rhoda Bernice Smith was born in Greenwood, February 27, 1904. She graduated from the Greenwood High School with the class of 1921. For three years she worked as operator at the local telephone exchange and then went to Milwaukee where she worked in Chapman's store. She was taken ill on May 1st and on May 3rd was taken to Columbia Hospital where she was operated on for kidney trouble which developed into peritonitis, causing her death May 12th. Her mother and brother Vern were at her bedside at the time of death.


She leaves to mourn, her mother and father, four brothers, Leon of Greenwood, Vern of Milwaukee, Paul of Bruce and Charles of Eau Claire and one sister, Mrs. Fred Huss of Galesville. All were present at the funeral which was held from the local Reformed Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Pfeiffer officiated. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Others from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Pete Christenson of Milwaukee, Mrs. Fox and Neil of Owen, Mrs. Christenson and daughter of Withee, Gertrude Jarette of Milwaukee and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Swan of Neillsville.


Deceased was known by many of our readers and her memory is kept sacred by her relatives and friends who knew her as a sincere daughter, sister and friend. Many attended the funeral and paid a last tribute to the deceased and the floral offerings were many and beautiful.
