ROBERT ZAIS (1933 - 2000)
 

Robert W. ZAIS, 66, of Rockford, IL, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2000, in his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.


He was born November 25, 1933, in Stanley, the son of Nicholas and Anna (STOEHR) ZAIS. He was a 1951 graduate of McDonnell High School in Chippewa Falls.


He was a veteran of the US Air Force, joining in 1953 and retiring in 1973 after 20 years of service. He served four tours of duty in Okinawa, Thailand, the Philippines, and Viet Nam.


He married Carole MEAD of Burlington, VT, on June 22, 1954. He was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Clifford E. Johnson VFW Post 9759, and American Legion Post 1207.


He was employed by NAPA Auto Parts at the time of his death.


Robert was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He loved his dog, Daisy, and loved the country home of his son, Alan.


He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carole three sons, Robert (Sally), Alan, and Kevin mother, Anna, 94 years old, of Chippewa Falls three sisters, Dorothy POTTS and Anne Marie ECKSTROM, both of Milwaukee, and Lorraine KAISNER of Highland, IL two brothers, Jerome (Judy) of Chippewa Falls and Francis (Debbie) of Boyd sisters-in-law, Ruth VANDERWALL of Rockford, IL, and Marjorie MILLER of Kagel Canyon, CA and several nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his father, Nicholas and brothers, Richard, Nicholas, and James.


Mass of Christian Burial was held January 20 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Rockford. Father John Stringini, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.


Sunset Funeral Home of Rockford was in charge of the arrangements.
