Elsie Alry Zielanis, 82, Owen, died on Tuesday, November 16, 1999, in the Emergency Room of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.


Funeral servies for Elsie will be on Thursday, November 18, 1999, 11:00 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee, with Reverend Paul Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Withee. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.


Visitation with family and friends will be on Thursday, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Maurina Funeral Home, Owen assisted the family with arrangements.


The former Elsie Kapyla was born on October 29, 1917, the daughter of John and Mary (Luhtala) Kapyla. As a young lady, Elsie worked as a domestic in the Chicago area. In September of 1941, Elsie and Leon Zielanis were married. They later divorced. Elsie resided with her mother on the family farm in the Town of Withee and later moved to Withee. She had been employed at the Blue Moon Cheese Factory in Thorp and later as a nurses aid at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. She retired after nearly 30 years with the Center. Elsie was a resident of the Clark County Health Care Center since December of 1993.


Elsie was a member of the Bethany Finish Church in Owen until its closing and then joined Nazareth Lutheran and was a member of the ladies aid. Elsie enjoyed traveling with bus tours, reading, gardening, crocheting and was an avid bird watcher.


She will be dearly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald (Kathryn) Zielanis of Eau Claire, and grandson, Daniel Zielanis of Eau Claire. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Robert Leon Zielanis on May 14, 1999 and sister Ellen Cicoria on February 21, 1998.
