OBITUARY OF GUY CARL BENSON


Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Feb. 13th at the Lutheran Church at Longwood for Guy Carl Benson, 22, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Benson, who died Sunday evening, Feb. 9, 1930, following an attack of Quinsy. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Rev. M.K. Aaberg, Greenwood, officiating.


The pallbearers were Justin McCarty, Einar Jackson, Lucius Bowen, Orville Thorson, Arthur Anderson and Albert Aberg. Three songs were sung by Miss Edna Thorson, Mrs. Harry Thorson, Orville Thorson and Oscar Elton.


The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful and together with the large attendance at the services told of the high esteem with which the deceased and his family are regarded in the community.


Out of town relatives at the funeral included a brother, Leonard of Milwaukee a sister, Mrs. A. C. Flatten, Colorado Springs, Col. Olaf Nyren and son Harry and Oscar Moen, Blair. A large number of friends from Owen, Greenwood, Curtiss and Withee were also present.
The deceased was born July 17, 1907 in Longwood and received an elementary education in the local graded school. He was confirmed in the local Norwegian Lutheran Church Nov. 21, 1920, after which he entered the Withee high school, where he completed the first two years work. He entered the Owen High School as a junior and graduated with the class of 1925.


After finishing high school he entered the YMCA Preparatory School at Chicago to enter the college of law.


After serving for a time with the Burns Detective Agency in Chicago, he returned in 1927 to assist his father on the home place, where he had been employed most of the time since then. He is survived by his parents and the sister and brother above mentioned.
