HANS YSTAD


Greenwood--Hans Ystad, 83, who had been ill for many years as a result of old age complications and had been seriously ill the past week, died Sunday morning, April 18, 1943 at 9:30 o'clock at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hoken Ystad, 4 miles northeast of Greenwood, Clark County.


Mr. Ystad was born in Stenkjar, Norway, Jan. 2, 1860, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Ystad. He came to a farm at Greenwood on July 13, 1886, and was married to Miss Jorgina Hembre Oct. 14, 1888, his wife dying 10 years ago.


Funeral arrangements have not been made for Mr. Ystad, who was a chart member of Trondhjem Lutheran Church.


Surviving are four sons, Olaf, Hoken, and Ralph Ystad, all of Greenwood, and Pvt. Lee Ystad, Camp Chaffee, Ariz. six daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Julia) Hecker, Loyal Mrs. Carl (Alma) Sheets, Curtiss Mrs. Otto (Amanda) Goehring, Loyal Mrs. Lyle (Elsie) Jentz, Camp Chaffee, Ariz. Miss Ellen Ystad, Owen and Mrs. Frank (Jeanette) Basele, Miwaukee 27 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.


One sister, Mrs. John Wisth, lives in Milwaukee and two sisters are in Norway. Two daughters, Mrs. Helga Johnson and Helen Ystad, and one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
