Thomas, Melvin M. (1896 - 1963)


GREENWOOD-Funeral Services were held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home for Melvin McKinley Thomas, 67, who died of a lingering illness Saturday afternoon, Sept. 4, 1963, at the home of his son, Frank, Route 2. Charles Preston, Milwaukee, officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Military rites were in charge of the American Legion Post 238.


Melvin Thomas was born July 14, 1896, in Vernon County. On Aug. 2, 1920, he was married to Alta Sischo at Ontario, Wis. After their marriage they lived in Ontario for six years, and then moved three miles west of Neillsville. In 1942 they came to Greenwood. In 1954, when his health failed, they sold the farm to their son, Frank. Since then they have lived on a small farm in the Town of Eaton, Clark County. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of World War I.


He is survived by his wife two daughters, Mrs. Geneva Olson, Marshfield, and Mrs. Lester (Helen) Severson, Greenwood three sons, Frank Greenwood Ralph, Loyal and Dale, Milwaukee a brother, William Thomas, Hudson and a sister, Mrs. Elsie Neulun, Viroqua 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
