GREENWOOD--William Frederick Abel, 87, Greenwood, Clark County, died Sunday evening, Dec. 13, 1959, in St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield, where he had been a surgical patient since Nov. 3.


Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Orval Egbert. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.


The body is reposing at the Hill Funeral Home.


Mr. Abel was born Feb. 20, 1872, at Barton, Wis., and came to the Town of Warner with his parents at the age of seven. On June 28, 1899, he married Meta Schwarze in Immanuel Reformed Church in Greenwood. They farmed in the Town of Hendren and for the past 11 years he had resided in the Town of Beaver.


He was a member of the Town of Hendren board and an officer of the Rocky Run School District.


Survivors include two sons, Theodore and Edward, both of Greenwood seven grandchildren three great-grandchildren, and two brothers, John, Town of Eaton and Gustave, Town of Warner.


He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother, Frank Abel.

Abel, William Frederick (20 February 1872 - 13 December 1959)

 

William Frederick Abel, 87, of Greenwood died Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been a surgical patient since November 3.

 

Mr. Abel was born February 20, 1872, in Barton.  He came with his parents to the Town of Warner at the age of seven.

 

He was married to Meta Schwarze on June 28, 1899, in Immanuel Reformed Church, Greenwood. After their marriage they farmed five miles southwest of Greenwood in the Town of Hendren.  For the past 11 years he had resided in the Town of Beaver.  His wife died June 16, 1946.

 

Surviving are two sons, Theodore and Edward Abel, both of Greenwood; two brothers, John of the Town of Eaton, and Gustave of the Town of Warner; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were to be held Wednesday afternoon from Immanuel United Church. The Rev. Orval Ebgert (Egbert) was to officiate.  Burial was to be made in the parish cemetery.  Funeral arrangements were made by the Hill Funeral Home.

Abel, William Frederick #3(20 FEB 1872 - 13 DEC 1959)

William Frederick Abel, son of the late Frank and Caroline Dathia Abel was born February 20, 1872 at Barton, Wisconsin, and came to the Town of Warner with his parents at the age of seven. Here he received his education and grew to manhood.

On June 28, 1899 he was united in marriage to Meta Schwarze at Immanuel reformed church. They farmed in the Town of Hendren until 1948 when he moved to the Town of Beaver.

He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ and was a member of the Hendren Town Board and an officer of the Rocky Run School district. He has been residing at the Home for the Aged in Greenwood.

Mr. Abel passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield on Sunday, December 13, 1959 where he had been a patient since November 3, and where he had undergone two operations.
The body was brought to Hill Funeral Home, greenwood, on Monday and lay in state from Tuesday until Wednesday.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 16th at Immanual United Church of Christ, Rev. Orval Egbert, pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

The pallbearers were Norbert Kuester, Adolph Wendt, Norman Geisler, Ole Abel, Gilbert Abel and Adolph Abel.

Mr. Abel is survived by two sons, Theodore and Edward both of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, John of the Town of Eaton and Gustav of the Town of Warner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one sister and one brother.
