Wendt, John F. (1878 - 1953)


GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--John Fred Wendt, 74, Owen, died at 9 a.m. today, March 18, 1953, at his home in the Town of Longwood. A heart ailment caused his death.


Mr. and Mrs. Wendt returned home Sunday from Danville, Ky., where, since November, they had been visiting with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Gander.


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Charles Koch will officiate. Burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
The body will repose at the Griebenow Funeral Home, Owen, until Friday, when it will be taken to the Wendt home.


Mr. Wendt was born April 24, 1878, in Allegan, Mich. At the age of six he came to Thorp with his parents. His marriage to Clara Noah took place April 28, 1909, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Noah, in Greenwood. After their marriage they settled on their present farm in the Town of Longwood.


Survivors include his wife two sons, Adolph and Edgar, Owen three daughters, Mrs. Adolph (Bertha) Gander, Danville, Ky. Mrs. Burnell (Leona) Erickson, Madison and Mrs. Daniel (Alice) Olson, Greenwood 21 grandchildren a sister, Mrs. William Courter, Withee and three brothers, William, Owen August, Denver, Colo. and Fred, La Grande, Ore.


Two brothers and a sister preceded he in death.
