Trnka, Edward (1909 - 1990)


Edward M. (Doc) Trnka, D.C., Loyal, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 1990, at 7:20 p.m. at Memorial Home, Neillsville Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 3, 1990, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal. Father Roman Kaiser officiated and burial was in St. Anthony's Chruch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Irvin Drach, Tom Lindner, Wilbur Kehrberg, Norman Roth, Leonard Denk, and John A Schultz.


Mr. Trnka was born Feb. 20, 1909, in New Prague, Minn., to Thomas and Katherine (nee Svoboda) Trnka. He attended St. Wencelaus School and graduated from New Prague High School.


He was a boy soprano and sang for many programs in his youth. As an adult he sang with the Twin City Opera Company. He studied voice at St. Olaf, McFail and Hamline University. He went to Northwester Chiropractic College and graduated in 1938.


He opened his office in Loyal and practiced for 45 years, retiring in Oct. 1983, when he sold his building and practice. He also attended Logan College for Basic Research in St. Louis, Mo. He became president of the Wisconsin Basic Research society.


He married Arleen Erickson at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal June 20, 1940. In Loyal he was head of the original Loyal Days and participated in plays put on by the city. He was a Loyal Alderman and served on the library board. He was a charter member of the Loyal Rotary, Knights of Columbus, St. Anthony's Church and American and Wisconsin Chiropractic Societies.


Survivors include his wife, Arleen sons, John and Patty Trnka, Rochester, Minn. Ken and Terrie Trnka, Puyallup, Wash. daughters, Kathryn and Chester Berkey, Eau Claire and Ruth Trnka, Mosinee four grandchildren, Chris and Ben Berkey, Jennifer and Michael Trnka and one brother, Joseph and Leatta Trnka, Montgomery, Minn.


He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.


Rinka Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
