Luther, Clara Anna Sophia (1886 - 1990)


Clara Anna Sophia Luther, 103, Colby, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 1990, at the Colonial House Living Center, Colby. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 1990, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. Rev. Joseph Kraly officiated and burial was in the West Spencer Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Lyle Quandt, Dewayne Gropp, James Gropp, Ronald Miller, Larry Jeske, and Cletus Alexander.


Clara Anna Sophia Lindekugel was born Oct. 22, 1886, in the town of Sherman, Clark County to Julius and Emilie (nee Deering) Lindekugel. She received her education at country schools and at Loyal High School. She taught at a county school and worked in Orsby Hall, Lawrence College in Appleton. She married Adolph Luther Sept. 1, 1909, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. They farmed in the town of Sherman. She was the clerk of the rural school district. When they retired in 1946, they moved to Spencer. She moved to Oconomowoc in 1985 to live with her daughter before entering the Living Center 4 months ago. She was a member of the ladies aid and homemakers.


Survivors include four daughters, Verna Quandt, Oconomowoc Mrs. Melvin (Florence) Stapel, Nichols Mrs. Robert (Adeline) Gropp, Spencer and Mrs. Raymond (Jeanette) Miller, Unity 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, four brothers and one sister.
Rux Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
