Smith, Kendall Louis (1934 - 2001)


Kendall Louis Smith, 66, Neillsville, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville. A memorial service was held on Monday, April 9, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Neillsville. The Rev. James Gordon officiated.


Kendall Louis Smith was born on April 24, 1934, in Brookfield, to Bernard and Mildred (nee Fritz) Smith. He attended elementary and high school in St. Charles, Minn. In 1952, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He then attended Winona College and graduated in 1958 with a teaching degree. In 1959, he married Elaine Daniels. They later divorce. During this time, he was a teacher in Weyewega. In 1961, he began teaching American History, American government, and developed the Wisconsin History Class for the Neillsville School District. He received his masters degree from UW-Stevens Point. He also worked during the summers for Tesmer Construction and later painted many houses with Gerhardt Scheel. He married Renata Roni Kaczor on June 24, 1989, at the United Church of Christ, Neillsville. The couple resided in Neillsville and he retired in 1993. He entered Memorial Medical Center in 1998 due to his battle with Alzheimer s. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. He was a play director and led the Clark County Male Chorus for many years and was an adviser for the television game show High Quiz Bowl . He loved the outdoors, conoeing, camping, and spending time with his family.


Survivors include his wife, Ranata Roni Kaczor-Smith, Neillsville three children, Reed (Jackie) Smith, Temecula, Calif., Lisa (Robby) McDonald, Black River Falls, and Jeffrey Smith, Black River Falls one step-son, Dennis (Sara) Kaczor, Marshfield three grandchildren, Conagher McDonald, and Emily and Euriah Smith one step-granddaughter, Samantha Kaczor three sisters, Julaine (Samanta) Roy, Shawano, Genene (Bob) Gordish, Red Wing, Minn., and Lois Jean (Bob) Theesfeld, Hastings, Minn. his mother-in-law, Irene, Weir, Westfield two brothers-in-law, Dennis (Gloria) Weir and Lydell (Brigitte) Weir, both of Ripon and one sister-in-law, Wanda Sohn, Madison.


Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
